A solid stream delivers a cohesive, continuous jet, so most water stays liquid until it reaches the fire and provides deep cooling with minimal fragmentation. Because there’s less mist and steam produced, visibility remains clearer and the hot gas layer stays more stable, helping to preserve the atmosphere and thermal balance as you work. Fog or mist streams break the water into many droplets, which vaporize quickly and create a dense steam plume that obscures vision and disrupts the air flow, making it harder to control the fire. Straight streams are similar to solid streams but, when used improperly, can be less effective at penetrating and cooling deep seated fires, so the solid stream is the best option for maintaining visibility and thermal balance.
